Man steals 200 Euros and 25,000TL from flatmate, told police he stole only 300 Euros

Turkish Cypriot police on Friday detained a man for stealing and giving false statement.

The suspect named only as AM was arrested on Friday and taken to a court in Lefkosa on charges of theft.

Police officer who testified in court said the suspect at around 3:30pm on Thursday, stole 200 Euros from a bag belonging to one AM and 25,000TL from a suitcase belonging to one SH, both his colleagues with whom he stays with in Lefkosa.

Police said the suspect destroyed the room so that it would not be understood that he had stolen the money. He then went to the police and gave a statement that 300 Euros had been stolen.

Police said that as a result of the investigation, it was determined that the suspect made a false statement and stole the money himself.

Police stated that the suspect, when questioned, told them where he hid the money he stole. The police reported that 200 Euros and 21,000 TL of the stolen money were found, while 4,000 TL was missing.

Noting that the investigation was continuing and that there were signs to be sought, the police requested that the suspect be detained for 3 days.
