Türkiye’s centennial to be celebrated in the TRNC on Sunday

The Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus (TRNC) will mark the 100th anniversary of the Republic of Türkiye on Sunday, October 29.

Various ceremonies, parades and activities will be held across the TRNC to mark Türkiye’s independence and its establishment as a modern Republic.

Celebrations marking the Republic of Türkiye’s 100th anniversary will commence on Saturday with a speech by Metin Feyzioğlu, the Turkish Ambassador to Lefkoşa, to be broadcast on BRT at 1pm, followed by a 21-gun salute.

A reception will also be held at the Turkish embassy at 7pm.

The day’s first ceremony in the capital Lefkoşa will be held in front of the Atatürk Monument on Sunday morning at 9:30 where wreaths will be laid.

A procession will be held at Mehmet Akif Avenue, also known as Dereboyu at 4pm.

Similar ceremonies will be held in Gazimağusa, Girne, İskele, Güzelyurt, Lefke as well as other towns across the TRNC.

A series of sports tournaments will also be held on Sunday to mark the occasion.

According to the National Day Celebrations Central Committee, the Taekwondo Judo Karate Federation will hold the “Republic Challenging Moves Competition” at 5pm at the Eurasia Taekwondo Center in Girne.

The Gymnastics Federation’s Republic Cup Competition will be held at the Dr. Küçük Gymnastics Hall in Lefkoşa from 2pm to 7pm, while the Badminton Federation’s event, “All Children Are Champions in the 100th Year,” will take place from 9am to 11am at the Atatürk Sports Hall in Lefkoşa.

The Archery Federation’s Republic Cup tournament will be held on the same day at 10am at the Atatürk Sports Complex Federation Competition Area.

Concerts will also take place throughout the weekend as part of the celebrations.
