Man detained for living illegally in north Cyprus

A man who was found to be living illegally in the north of Cyprus without a residence permit was arrested and brought to court. 

The man named only as F.Ö., a Turkish citizen was arrested on Wednesday when he was invited to the judicial court in Lefkosia, where it was discovered during immigration.

He was taken to court on Thursday on charges of illegal residency.

Police said investigation showed that he had been living illegally in the TRNC for 629 days without a residence permit.

The suspect, who was given the opportunity to speak after the police, said that he came to the north of Cyprus because he was an earthquake victim and that his parents lived here.

The judge who evaluated the testimony ordered the suspect to be detained in prison without a sentence for a period not exceeding 20 days.
