Narcotic detector dog detects man with drugs at Ercan Airport

A passenger who had arrived the TRNC via Ercan Airport was caught with drugs on Saturday night after he was sniffed by a narcotic detector dog.

The suspect named only as M.Ç.N., 28 had just arrived Ercan Airport at around 9:30pm on Saturday and was about to go through immigration control when he was sniffed by a narcotic detector dog.

Police said a search was carried out on the suspect due to the reaction of the dog towards the suspect.  

Police said approximately 10 grams of jute, believed to be a drug, was found wrapped in a piece of black nylon in the sock he was wearing on his left foot. The drug was taken as evidence.

He was arrested and take to the Lefkosa District Court on Sunday.

The suspect stated in his statement that he bought the drug from Turkey for the purpose of smoking.

Police said the seized substance will be sent for analysis.

Stating that the investigation continues, the police requested that the suspect be detained for 2 days.
