Student visit Lefkosa police for document, arrested for living illegally in the TRNC for 8 years

Despite living illegally in the TRNC for over eight years without a resident permit, she had the courage to go to the police department in Lefkosa to obtain an Entry and Exit report. 

An international student was at the weekend identified and arrested by Turkish Cypriot police after it was discovered that she has been living illegally in the TRNC for eight years since 2015. 

The student named only as MUA, an African had gone to the Lefkosa Police Department on Friday, October, 3 to obtain an Entry-Exit document when it was discovered that she is an illegal resident in the TRNC.

She was arrested and taken to court on Sunday on charges of living illegally in the TRNC without a resident permit.

Police prosecutor who spoke in court said; the student had been staying in the north of Cyprus without a residence permit for a total of 2,874 days since December 21, 2015.  

Police stated that she was arrested 'red-handed' and an investigation was launched against her.

The suspect, who spoke in court said, “I was going to go to my country and never come back. "I'll get my ticket and go".

Police stated that they will investigate what the suspect did while she was living illegally in the country.

The police noted that they would also contact the Labor Department and requested that the suspect be detained for 2 days in the first instance for investigation purposes.
