TRNC bans Russian national banned from the TRNC

The TRNC government has banned a Russian national who is wanted by Interpol after he was discovered to be residing in the TRNC.

Vlad Islav Apakov, born in Izhevsk on December 12, 1970, who fled Russia to the TRNC, is accused of committing numerous crimes in his country and stealing large amounts of money from a company he worked for, which he transferred to his own account, following which he escaped to North Cyprus.

The Council of Ministers on Wednesday declared Apakov to be an undesirable alien, “because he is likely to act in a way that endangers public order, administrative order or general morality, or to arouse hostility among the public and against the State, or to intrigue against the authority and power of the State“.

The Council of Ministers’ decision was published in the Official Gazette on Wednesday, Nov., 1.

This decision could have implications for Apakov’s residency and ‘legal status’ in the north, while he may face legal consequences for his actions upon his arrival, Turkish Cypriot media reported.

According to Interpol’s official website, Apakov is suspected of charges related to misappropriation or embezzlement in extremely large-scale. He is 1.75 metres tall with dark hair and speaks Russian and English.
