The 40th anniversary celebrations of the establishment of the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus reached a climax with the official ceremony of the day at the Dr. Fazıl Küçük Boulevard on Wednesday.

Important messages were given by Turkish Vice President Cevdet Yılmaz and President Ersin Tatar during the ceremony.

Turkish Vice President Cevdet Yılmaz delivered a speech during the Republic Day ceremony that took place at the Dr. Fazıl Küçük Boulevard in the capital Lefkoşa.

In his address at the event the Turkish Vice President said that the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus is 40 today and it is proof that the Turkish Cypriot people will not bow down to anyone.

He expressed his happiness to be a part of the 40th anniversary celebrations by conveying greetings from Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan and the Turkish people.

Yılmaz also paid tribute to all those who fought for the cause of Turkish Cypriots, including the founding President Rauf Raif Denktaş and the heroes of the Cyprus Peace Operation.

He emphasized the resilience and determination of the Turkish Cypriot people, who established their own state and showed their national will.

Yılmaz stressed that the Republic was a symbol of independence and freedom against Greek Cypriot persecution and expressed pride in the history of the struggle of the Turkish Cypriot people and their unity with the Turkic world.

Yılmaz also pledged to support the economic development and international integration of North Cyprus and to work towards a just and lasting solution to the Cyprus Issue.

Emphasizing the importance of recognizing the establishment of the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus 40 years ago and the need to move forward with a two-state solution, Yılmaz highlighted Türkiye’s role in promoting peace and security in the region, aiming to transform the Eastern Mediterranean into an area of cooperation and stability.

Yılmaz also expressed support for the Palestinian cause and called for accountability for those involved in the events in Palestine.

President Ersin Tatar for his part highlighted the 40th anniversary of the TRNC, acknowledging the suffering, genocide, and massacres endured by the Turkish Cypriot people.

Despite this, he emphasized their resilience and hope for the future.

Tatar referenced the declaration by Founding President Rauf Raif Denktaş, declaring the TRNC as an independent state based on the will of the Turkish Cypriot people, which further solidified the foundation of a Turkish state in the Eastern Mediterranean.

Tatar reiterated that the TRNC will continue to be a symbol of independence, freedom, and liberty for future generations.

Paying tribute to historical figures like Dr. Fazıl Küçük, founding President Rauf Raif Denktaş, and those involved in the 1974 peace operation, Tatar noted the Turkish Cypriot people’s commitment to peace and security, while criticizing the Greek Cypriot Administration for their unwillingness to share the country’s resources and attempts to change the island into a Greek one.

Touching upon the Cyprus issue President Tatar stressed that an agreement in Cyprus can only be achieved with sovereign equality and equal international status, and called for recognition of the TRNC and an end to isolation.

He commended Azerbaijan for its victory in Karabakh and its support towards recognizing the TRNC.
