4.1 magnitude earthquake hit Hatay, Turkey

A mild earthquake of magnitude 4.1 shook the Antakya district of Turkey's southern Hatay province on Thursday evening.

According to information on Turkey's Disaster and Emergency Management Presidency official website, the earthquake, which occurred at approximately 21:24 TSI, had its epicenter located at a latitude of 36.33083 degrees north and a longitude of 36.15306 degrees east. The seismic activity took place at a depth of 11.16 km.

A statement by Hatay Governorship, reads:  "According to initial findings, no report has been received to the 112 Emergency Call Center. AFAD search and rescue teams have been directed to the region for reconnaissance and precautionary purposes. Developments are being followed. Get well soon to all our citizens."

This incident follows a notable seismic event on February 6 when a powerful 7.8-magnitude earthquake struck southern Türkiye and northern Syria, resulting in a tragic toll.

Over 50,000 lives were lost, and more than 108,000 individuals sustained injuries across the ten most affected provinces in Türkiye, with additional casualties reported in adjacent Elazığ and Batman provinces.

The aftermath of the earlier earthquake left a lasting impact, affecting at least 13.5 million people and causing damage to 4 million buildings. The grim situation unfolded as thousands found themselves trapped under rubble when buildings collapsed.
