Professional mermaid almost drownes in South Africa

Scenes of horror unfolded in a shopping centre in South Africa as a professional mermaid came perilously close to drowning during her performance in a water tank.

In a video released by Gabriela Green-Thompson Kay, she is seen dancing when suddenly her ‘tail’ becomes entangled in the tank’s coral.

The young performer, visibly distressed, attempts to surface but fails. In a desperate move, she decides to remove her fabric tail in front of the audience, a decision that ultimately saved her life.

After emerging unharmed from the tank, she explained the incident in a video posted on her TikTok account.

“Every professional mermaid should know how to free themselves from their tail in an emergency. Unfortunately, my adventure spoiled the magic of the moment but turned out to be a valuable opportunity for education,” said the young woman, who holds a professional diving certification.
