Student caught with drugs in north Cyprus after a tip off

A foreigner in North Cyprus has been arrested and detained after he was caught with drugs following a tip.

The suspect named only as G.A was found with 90 grams of jute during a search conducted by the police on his vehicle during a traffic search.

Police said the suspect was arrested upon a tip that he was selling drugs in Lefkcosia. 

He was taken to the Lefkcosia District Court on Friday on charges of "taking, giving and possessing drugs".

Police stated that, according to information received at 2:00pm on December 13, 2023, it was learned that the suspect was selling drugs in the Lefkcosia region.

The police officer said that the suspect was detected driving in Lefkosia with a vehicle on the same day. Police noted that during the search of the suspect's vehicle, a total of 90 grams of jute wrapped in 67 separate packages and 20,400 TL of money, believed to be obtained from drug sales, were seized.

The police officer explained that the suspect was arrested in flagrante delicto and foil papers were found during a search of his residence in Lefkcosia.

The police noted that the suspect, who was questioned, admitted that he bought 140 grams of the drug from a wanted person and sold 56 grams of the jute to many people in Lefkosia and sent some of the money to the person who supplied him with the drug.

Stating that the investigation continues in many aspects, the police requested that the suspect be detained for one day in the first stage.
