Two students detained for drugs, another for illegal residency

Two students who were arrested for drug possession in Kyrenia were detained for 7 days on Saturday.

The suspects, EW and PCO, who are both Nigerians were arrested for drug possession during the operation carried out in Kyrenia, on Monday, Nov., 27.

They were taken to the Kyrenia district court again on Saturday.

A third person named only as HLMJ was also taken to court on charges of living in the TRNC illegally.

Police told the court that 10 grams of drugs were found in 10 separate packages in the pocket of EW, who was detected at Yaşam 3 Apartmanı Flat 19, Şehit Celal Bekiroğlu Sokak in Kyrenia at around 5.50pm on November 27, 2023, by the Narcotics and Smuggling Prevention Directorate teams. Police stated that during the search, PCO was seen flushing drugs into the toilet and he was arrested with force.

Police stated that 99 grams of drugs were found during the search of the toilet manhole. The police officer also announced that 11 grams of drugs were seized in 11 packages during the search of the suspect PCO's bedroom.  

The police stated that in addition to a total of 152 grams of drugs, a precision scale and 4,700 TL in cash obtained from drug sales, 65 GBP, 65 Euros and 5 American Dollars in cash were found and taken as evidence.

Police said EW, PCO and HLMJ, who was found in the house were arrested.

They determined that HLMJ had no connection with drugs, but since she remained in the country without a residence permit, they handed her over to the judicial branch within the scope of another investigation.

Noting that the investigation was continuing and that there were statements to be taken, the police requested that the suspects be detained for 7 days.
