Two Syrians arrested by Turkish Cypriot police for illegal entry

Two Syrians who entered the north of Cyprus illegally on Saturday were arrested by Turkish Cypriot police for illegal entry.

They were brought to the Lefkosia Judicial Branch on Saturday, Dec., 30.

The suspects, O.G and A.M entered the TRNC illegally at around 8:00am on Nov., 31, 2023. They then went to the police to ask for help saying they were lost.

Police said they stated in their statement that they came to north Cyprus by boat from Mersin in in Turkiye.

They were 20 in numbers but did not know where the other 18 people were. 

Police noted that the refugees also said that they paid $6,200 to come to the country by boat. 

Police stated that an investigation was launched and 18 other people were searched, and requested that the refugees be detained for 3 days.
