COVID-19 hospitalizations increase in Cyprus

There is recent surge in the cases of COVID-19infection in Cyprus (south), said Greek Cypriot government official on Tuesday.

The spokesperson for the Cyprus Health Services Organization (SHSO), Charalambos Charilaou, made the statement on Tuesday, Jan., 2 when he said there is a recent surge in COVID-19 patient admissions in Cyprus.He however assured the public that the situation is under control.

According to Charilaou, currently, around 70 patients are hospitalized, with three in stable condition in the Intensive Care Unit (ICU).

Speaking about the situation, Charilaou stated, “It seems there is an increase in admissions with COVID-19,” emphasizing that “this primarily involves elderly individuals aged 75 to 80.”

He mentioned that these individuals mainly come from nursing homes, where transmission chains appear to be present.

He noted that the results of gatherings and crowding during the holidays will become apparent in the coming days.

He advised the public to continue adhering to individual hygiene measures, emphasizing that personal protective measures should apply to all infections.
