NBA suspends Tristan Thompson 25 games for testing positive for banned substances

Cleveland Cavaliers veteran center Tristan Thompson was suspended by the NBA for 25 games without pay for violating the league’s anti-drug program.

Tristan Thompson, 32, tested positive for two substances, “ibutamoren and SARM LGD-4033,” according to an NBA press release Tuesday.

The NBA champion’s suspension will begin with Cleveland’s road game against the Milwaukee Bucks on Wednesday.

Both are banned substances and considered performance enhancers that artificially improve strength, build muscle and speed up recovery.

Ibutamoren increases body mass and stimulates growth hormone, according to Jesse Morse, M.D., while SARM LGD-4033 increases muscle mass, reduces body fat, improves strength and endurance and reduces inflammation.

Thompson, who’s in his 12th NBA season, is averaging 3.8 points and 3.9 rebounds per game this season.

Thompson signed a one-year deal worth $3.1 million with the Cavaliers last September.

Thompson previously said Kris Jenner helped him land the gig at ESPN when she made a few phone calls to ABC and Disney.

The NBA player dated Jenner’s daughter KhloĂ© Kardashian on and off from 2016 to 2021, and the ex-couple shares daughter True, 5, and son Tatum, who was born via surrogate on July 28, 2022.

The exes have remained close friends while co-parenting their children and Thompson temporarily lived with Kardashian in Los Angeles after his mother, Andrea, died in January 2023.
