Two men detained for living illegally and working without permit in north Cyprus

Two foreigners who were found by the police at Ercan Airport area were found to be living illegally in north Cyprus and working without a permit.

The suspects, O.N., M.S., were found in the Ercan Airport area at around 11:00am on January 14, 2024 by crime prevention police team patrolling the area.

They were arrested and taken to the Demirhan Police Station as a result of their failure to give any explanation to the police. 

They were taken to the Lefkosia District Court.

During investigation, it was discovered that O.N., was found to have been residing in the country without a residence permit for 444 days since October 27, 2022, and M.S., for 228 days since May 31, 2023.

Police stated that the suspects came to the country with a 30-day work permit and that the suspect O.N., worked at Cesar Construction operating in Iskele, while M.S., worked as a livestock breeder in the Balıkesir region, but neither of them had a work permit.

Police stated that most of the investigation into the suspects had been completed and requested that they be sent to prison for a period not exceeding 20 days.
