North Cyprus immigration department detains man for illegal residency

A man who went to the north Cyprus Immigration Department for processing, was found to be living in the country without permit.

The suspect AC, a Turkish national went to the Immigration Department of the General Directorate of Police on Wednesday afternoon for processing, when he was found to be living in the country without permission and was arrested.

During the immigration check, it was determined that the suspect came to the country on November 11, 2021 with a 30-day work permit visa, but did not take legal action after the period expired and lived illegally for 788 days. 

The police stated that the investigation was completed and requested that the suspect be detained in custody.

Evaluating the testimony, the judge stated that the crime of residence permit is a crime that carries a prison sentence of up to 6 months and is becoming more common day by day, and ordered the suspect to be sent to prison for a period not exceeding 20 days.
