Student arrested in north Cyprus for stealing a Cristiano Ronaldo jersey from a shop

A 34-year-old man was on Wednesday arrested in north Cyprus for stealing a football jersey with the name “Ronaldo” and the number seven on its back.

The incident happened on Tuesday, Feb. 6 when the suspect named only as AOI stole a jersey from a business named Akay Ticaret operating in Vakıflar Passage in the Lefkosia city center.

He was taken to the Lefkosia district court on Wednesday on charges of theft.

Police said the individual reportedly entered the shop on Tuesday and put the shirt and a  black wristband with a total value of 290TL on, before leaving the shop wearing both but without paying for them.

An investigation was launched upon the complaint and the suspect was arrested on the same day.

Police also stated that the suspect, a university student in north Cyprus had a pending case regarding a similar matter. 

The man was ordered to remain behind bars for a period not exceeding one month until trial.
