Student driving under the influence of alcohol in north Cyprus detained for two days

An individual was sent to 2 days in prison in north Cyprus for driving under the influence of alcohol that led to an accident.

The individual, FD, 20, a Sierra Leon national was involved in an accident at around 10:30pm on Saturday while driving along Fazıl Küçük Street in Lefkosia.

He was arrested following the accident and taken to court on Sunday.

Police said he was driving under the influence of alcohol when he lost control of the vehicle when he approached the front of Okmar Market.

He then entered the second lane from the left and crashed into the left side of a vehicle driven by one Çağlar Özgökçen, which had stopped on the right lane at that time due to traffic congestion.

Police stated that the suspect, who was drunk and driving without a license, was arrested at the scene.

His vehicle suffered material damage of 50,000 TL, and the other vehicle had a damage worth 20,000TL.

Police said there were statements to be taken and camera footage to be examined regarding the accident.

The police noted that the suspect declared that he was a university student, but could not submit any documents, and therefore his residence status in the country would be investigated, and requested that he be detained for 2 days for investigation purposes.
