Pakistani prisoner escapes from prison in north Cyprus

A convicted prisoner who was serving time at the old Central Prison in Lefkosia escaped from prison by jumping over the perimeter wall surrounding the prison.

The incident happened at around 2:30pm on Saturday in the old Central Prison located in the Organized Industrial Zone in Lefkosia.

The suspect, AK, 25, a Pakistani national was detected by the guards in the railing area near the prison and sent back to prison.

The suspect tried to escape by jumping over the perimeter wall surrounding the prison. 

He was detected and caught by the prison guards in the railing area near the prison. He was arrested and placed back in prison.

He had been jailed last year after a series of burglaries and robberies at shops, including a burglary in May in which he stole a man’s car keys from inside his house and then drove off in the car.

He also stole seven tablets and five laptops from an electronics shop, and multiple other electronic devices from another house.

The police’s investigation into the escape attempt is ongoing.
