Student detained after he was found to have been living illegally in north Cyprus for 6 years

A student who was found to have been living illegally in north Cyprus for six years was detained on Thursday on court order.

The individual, MMB, a Tanzania national was arrested and taken to the Lefkosia district court on Wednesday, March, 6, on charges of living illegally in north Cyprus.

Police told the court that the individual entered the TRNC with a 90-day visa on January 1, 2018.

He was identified and arrested while inquiring about the status of his mother coming from Tanzania at the Ercan Airport Immigration Branch when it was determined that he had no residence permit in the country for 2,105 days after the legal period expired. 

Police stated that the investigation was continuing and that it would be investigated what the suspect did while he was living illegally in the country, and asked for him to be detained for one day in the first instance.
