Syrian man caught after escaping from prison in south Cyprus

Greek Cypriot police caught a Syrian man who escaped from the central prisons on Friday, two hours after his escape.

The man was caught around 3pm, after he escaped the prison following his return to the prisons earlier.

According to reports, the man, a suspect in a drugs case, had been taken to the Larnaca criminal court earlier for his hearing and was being transferred back to the prisons by the police.

The man was allegedly left unattended in the prison yard for a short time, and he fled.
