Three students caught with a kilo of drugs in Lefkosia

Three students who identified and arrested for drug crimes during an operation organized by the narcotics teams were detained for 3 days on court order.

The suspects CAN, OAO and OCA were caught with 1 kilo and 5 grams of drugs during the an operation organized by the narcotics teams in Küçük Kaymaklı region in Lefkosia on Thursday April 18, 2024.

They were taken to the Lefkosia district court on Friday on charges of "taking, giving and possessing illegal drugs", which occurred in Lefkosia between 14 and 18 April 2024.

Police stated in court that they wanted to search the suspect CAN who was seen by narcotic teams in the Küçük Kaymaklı region on April 18, 2024 and was determined to be a suspect, but he tried to escape when he saw the teams and was arrested by using reasonable force.

Police noted that during the search carried out on the suspect, jute weighing approximately 5 grams was wrapped in four separate pieces of foil was found in the pocket of his jeans.

Police said that they located his residence in Küçük Kaymaklı and searched the house and its surroundings after taking security measures. 

Police stated that when entering the house, the suspect, OCA, was in the living room, but OAO quickly went to his room and locked the door. The police noted that the door of the room was opened and they entered. OAO was found red-handed while throwing 30 grams of jute in 29 packages and 840 grams in 30 packages.

OAO was arrested using reasonable force, and that 7,200 TL, believed to have been obtained from drug sales, was found in his room.

The police emphasized that during the search in the bedroom of CAN, 3,200 TL, 100 grams of jute and a precision scale, believed to be obtained from drug sales, were found and an indication was taken.

Police said that OCA was not found to have any drugs, but they told the court that he was wanted in connection with one kilo of jute, weighing 500 grams, and synthetic cannabionide type drugs, weighing 100 grams, seized in Kyrenia in 2022.

Police said that OAO, one of the suspects questioned, admitted that he bought a kilo of drugs from a person on April 14 and gave some of it to CAN to sell.

The police stated that the seized substances would be sent for analysis, the packages they were wrapped in would be sent for fingerprint examination, and that the investigation was continuing, and asked for them to be detained for 3 days.
