Electricity grids in south and north Cyprus interconnected

The electricity grids of south Cyprus and that of north Cyprus are now interconnected into one network.

According to the report by Greek Cypriot daily, Phileleftheros on Saturday, the first trial for integrating the two networks into one happened on Tuesday, April 16, when when two units malfunctioned at Vasiliko power station in south Cyprus.

About 100 megawatts of electricity was supplied to the Electricity Authority of Cyprus from north Cyprus which were instrumental in preventing a blackout.

This development is part of a series of confidence building measures agreed by leaders of the two communities on February 26.

The final agreement on electricity was achieved on March 13, between the technical teams of the two sides.

The two sides are now supplying electricity to the other on a daily basis.
