Student's heart and kidney donated to patients in north Cyprus and Turkey after her death

The heart and kidney, of a 22-year-old Girne American University student who passed away on Monday October, 14 has been donated to two patients in north Cyprus and Turkey.

Kardelen Cetin, 22, a student of the English Department of the Girne American University, GAU, Kyrenia, died on Monday, October, 14 at the Near East University Hospital after she suddenly collapsed while in the midst of her friends in the university garden last week.

She was rushed to the intensive care unit at the Near East University Hospital in an ambulance where it was determined that she suffered from brain hemorrhage.

Following her death, her parents, Alev and Saffer Cetin who lived in Kudadasi decided to donate their daughter' organs to the TRNC.

Following the donation decision, a surgeon from the Akdeniz University Hospital along with the hospital's organ extraction team carried out the operation that lasted  for five hours.

A patient who had been fighting liver cirrhosis since 2014 received Cetins heart.

Cetin's kidney was transplanted to two patients awaiting kidey transplantation in the TRNC while another patient recieved her cornea.
