A 34-year-old Greek Cypriot man, was arrested on Monday for ramming the barriers at the Ledra Palace border d crossing between north and south Cyprus.

According to report by Yeniduzen, the man identified only as AN ignored the warnings of both the Greek Cypriot and Turkish Cypriot police and instead rammed his car through the barrier into north Cyprus.

The police officer who conducted the investigation regarding the incident said that the person in question, was detected and arrested in front of Deniz Plaza on Ecvet Yusuf Street by the help of security cameras and then taken to court on charges of damaging the barrier and using a crossing point which is reserved for diplomatic vehicles only.

His actions were recorded on a security camera.

He was remanded in custody for a period of not more than one month pending trial.

The suspect said that the police treated him badly and shot at his car, while the police stated that his tire was shot to make him stop.

The man told the court, "My car was shot." The police, on the other hand, said that after the barrier was destroyed, the person was shot to stop him.

The prosecutor drew attention to the possibility that AN would escape trial if he was released, and stated that he could face a serious prison sentence.

The judge, on the other hand, decided that AN, who stated that there was a possibility of escaping, would be put on trial.
