Student who destroyed a door in CIU because he's angry he can't return to Nigeria has been living in the TRNC illegally for 432 days

A Nigerian student who was arrested and detained last week for damaging a university door because he was angry he could not return to Nigeria has been found to be living illegally in the TRNC for 432 days.

The incident happened at Break Point Cafeteria located in the International University of Cyprus, Haspolat at around 1:00am Saturday, March, 18.

The accused identified only as JAO, 24, a student of CIU, reportedly caused confusion because he was angry he could not go to Nigeria.

He was first taken to a court in Lefkosa on Saturday and again on Thursday, March, 23.

Police told the court that the accused deliberately and unlawfully hit the single part of the electronic opening door, one of which is 200×100 cm in size, with his foot repeatedly, causing it to be dismantled together with the door jamb on the door and deliberately damaged it

Police said he ran to where laboratories are located in ST building of the university and damaged it by punching the electronic the door. He was arrested afterward.

Police demanded that the suspect be detained for 2 days, saying that the investigation is continuing.

On Thursday, March, 23, the police told the court that investigation into the matter has been completed noting the suspect has been living illegally in the country for 432 days and demanded that he be put on trial.

The judge ordered that the suspect be kept in prison for a period not exceeding one month until trial.
