One person died and 22 people injured in 72 traffic accidents in the last week in the TRNC

One person died and 22 people were injured in 72 traffic accidents that occurred in the last week in the TRNC.

According to information released by the Police Press Officer on Monday, a total of (72) traffic accidents occurred in the TRNC during the period covering April 10 – April 16, 2023. 

The accidents; resulted in (1) death, (17) injury and (54) damage. While (1) person died in the accidents, (22) people were injured.

Causes of traffic accidents that occurred during the period; Driving fast (24), driving recklessly (14), not stopping at the intersection (13), following closely (10) and other factors (11) were included.

The total amount of damage resulting from the accidents is 2,758,700 TL. 

The distribution of accidents by districts is as follows; Lefkosia: 27, Famagusta: 10, Kyrenia: 18, Guzelyurt: 11, Islele: 6.

As a result of traffic controls carried out by the police across the country between April 10 and April 16, 2023, a total of 10929 vehicle drivers were checked and 730 vehicle drivers found to have committed crimes were reported and legal action was initiated against them. The distribution of crimes is as follows;

Speeding (181), Dangerous Driving (5), Reckless Driving ( 22 ), Driving Without a Navigation License ( 99 ), Driving Without a Driving License ( 4 ), Driving Under the Influence of Alcohol ( 11 ), Using a Cell Phone While Driving ( 126 ) ), Driving Without a Seat Belt ( 30 ), Disobeying Traffic Signs and Signs ( 128 ), Driving Without Inspection ( 30 ), Driving Without Insurance or Out of Its Scope ( 19 ), Driving Without Permission ( 2 ), More Than Tonnage or Carrying Dangerous Goods (1), Riding a Motorcycle Without a Protective Helmet (1) and 71 other traffic offenses.
