Man who stabbed a doctor in Famagusta said he was angry because his sickness got worse

A Turkish Cypriot man who stabbed and injured a medical doctor in a private hospital in Famagusta on Saturday because he didn't received the desired treatment said he was angry because his sickness got worse. 

The incident happened in a private clinic located in Famagusta on Saturday, May, 4 when the suspect named only as C.E., stabbed and injured Dr. Sadrettin Tuğcu in several parts of his body including his stomach with a knife.

The Dr., a Urology Specialist at Famagusta State Hospital, was working in his private hospital when he was attacked by the suspect. Dr. Tuğcu was operated on at the Famagusta State Hospital. He was discharged from the hospital and continued his treatment at home.

The suspect, had on Thursday, May, 4, also stabbed and injured a lawyer with a knife in Lefkosa. 

He was taken back to court again on Wednesday. Police told the court that the suspect stabbed the doctor with a 20-centimeter-long folding knife with the intention of killing him because he was making fun of him.

Speaking in court, the suspect said; “No institution of the state took into consideration what I said. During this time, my disease progressed. That's how I took out my resentment as a human being."

Stating that he has a diagnosis of fibromyalgia and anxiety, the suspect said, “Since 2018, I have been deliberately tortured. None of the state institutions took into consideration what I said. During this time, my disease progressed. This is how I got my resentment as a human being. I do not deny my guilt. I stabbed the doctor. I became a victim of the miscommunication of the unemployed. My psychological disorders were triggered. I am a victim and needy in custody away from hygienic conditions. I am afraid of death when I see the police. He requested that he be released from detention and judged as a free man.”   

The police stated that they have not yet completed their multi-faceted investigation and said that the suspect should be kept under observation at the Barış Mental and Neurological Diseases Hospital in Lefkosa in order to obtain a report on his mental health. 

The court decided to keep the suspect in detention for 8 more days upon the request of the police for investigative purposes.
