Man shoots at police in Doğanköy during drug search

Turkish Cypriot police on Wednesday arrested a man who shot at them during a drug operation in Doğanköy.

Police said the suspect named only as BT, 67 was arrested with force in an incident that happened on Wednesday in Doğanköy.

Police said hundreds of grams of drugs, thousands of Turkish, guns and bullets were seized in the house where the operation was carried out.

It was stated that during the operation carried out by the teams of the Narcotics and Smuggling Prevention Directorate, the 67-year-old suspect first aimed the unlicensed gun at the police, and then pulled the trigger while trying to neutralize the police but the gun did not fire.

The suspect was neutralized by the police using reasonable force.

It was stated that the gun in the possession of the suspect, magazine and 9 live bullets in the magazine were taken as evidence.

Heroin weighing approximately 1 gram, cocaine weighing approximately 6 grams, cannabis type substances weighing approximately 506 grams, 2 sensitive scales believed to have substance residues, a grinder with substance residues, 23 live bullets and a total of believed to have been obtained from drug sales. It was reported that 25,285 TL, 250 US Dollars, 360 Sterling and 325 Euro cash were found in a search carried out in the suspect's house.

Two men, both 41 who were identified as having a connection to the incident were arrested.
