Student assaults two police officers in Güzelyurt

A man has been accused of damaging the spraying tank of a citrus orchard in Güzelyurt and seriously assaulting two police officers.

The suspect named only as TAHFA appeared in court on Friday on charges of  "Deliberate damage", "Serious assault", "Carrying weapons to intimidate", "Battering the police and not allowing them to perform their duty".

Police said the incident happened at around 11:00am on Wednesday, May, 10 in a farm belonging to EAN in Gaziveren's Su Deposu locality in Güzelyurt.

Police said the suspect damaged spraying tank in the citrus orchard with an iron sickle. He then hit and damaged the front hood of a vehicle.

Police said the suspect punched a Police Officer in the face and hit his arm with a shovel and then hit another police officer on his body with his hands and feet and severely battered both people.

He was held with reasonable force and arrested.

Police said it was determined that the suspect has been without a residence permit in the TRNC for 586 days since October 1, 2021.

Police requested that the suspect be kept in the Central Prison for a period of time that the court deems appropriate.

Evaluating the testimony given in court, the court ordered that the suspect be sent to the Central Prison for a period not exceeding one month.
