Student sentenced to 2 years in prison for drug

A court in Lefkosa, north Cyprus has sentenced a student to 2 years in prison after he was found guilty of drug charges.

The verdict against the defendant, named only as DM was announced on Monday, May, 15, by judges of the Lefkosa Heavy Penal Court.

DM was arrested and charged to court for importing 497 grams of cannabis and 50 grams of synthetic cannabionide type drugs to the TRNC

Delivering the judgement, the judge mentioned that the crime of importing drugs has become widespread and these cases are increasing day by day.

He stated that they evaluated against the defendant's importation of two different types of drugs in exchange for money. 

Touching upon all the issues in favor and against the accused, the judges unanimously sentenced him to 2 years in prison for the sake of public interest.
