Man arrested in north Cyprus for smuggling drugs from south Cyprus

A young man has been arrested and detained by Turkish Cypriot police after he was found with drugs and money in Gonyeli.

The residence of the suspect named only as DAA, 28 located in Gonyeli was raided by Narcotics and Smuggling Prevention Directorate police on Wednesday, July, 19 where he was caught red handed.

Turkish Cypriot police searched his home and found 600 grams of synthetic cannabinoid, 10 MDMA pills, precision scales, €20, and 28,960TL (€967) cash. Police said they are believed to have been obtained from the sales of the drugs.

Police said the suspect smuggled the items from Cyprus (south).

He was taken to court on Friday on charges of  drug importation, drug transfer, drug possession and saving and laundering proceeds of crime".

Police told the court that the suspect admitted to smuggling the drugs from south Cyprus and that he had previously smuggled and sold more drugs earlier in the month.

Police told the court that the suspect also admitted to importing 300 grams of synthetic cannabionide-type drugs and selling 290 grams at the beginning of July.

Police stated that the investigation continues and demanded that the suspect be detained for 7 days.
