"Scammers defraud TRNC citizen of 200k TL with fake vehicle sales website

Turkish Cypriot police has issued a warning to citizens against scams on the internet and social media.

The warning comes following a report of a citizens who transferred the sum of 200,000TL to a supposed car dealer via a fake website and never received the car in question.

The police in a report on Wednesday said a prepayment of 200,000 TL was paid by a citizen for a vehicle order through a fake website.

The victim paid the sum of 200,000TL on July, 17, to pre-order a vehicle through the websites "marcadesstoksiparis.net" and "marcades-siparis.net", which were created by fraudsters and pretended to be a vehicle sales site even though it is not in reality.

In order to avoid similar issues in the future, the police warns citizens to be very careful when purchasing products over the internet and social media platforms, and also not to send money to the bank accounts given by the seller without physically seeing the existence of the products offered for sale.
