"I did not know the age of the child": Woman accused for having sexual relationship with a minor in Kyrenia says

A woman who had sex with an underage boy in exchange for money in Kyrenia said she had no idea, he was underage. 

The incident happened in Alsancak, Kyrenia between the period of April and September 2023 but came to the notice of the police on Friday, Sept. 29.

The suspect named only as ES, a Turkish national was arrested on Friday, after she was found to have had sexual intercourse with a 13-year-old boy in exchange for money.

She was taken to court on Saturday on charges of "Sexual Abuse of a Child Under 16 Years Old".

Police said the suspect was arrested following a complaint.

Police stated that the suspect was involved in the crime of sexual abuse of a child under the age of 16 by having sexual intercourse with a 13-year-old boy in Kyrenia between April and September 2023 for 1800 TL.

Police said the information got to them on September 29, 2023 and the suspect was arrested on the same day in accordance with a court order.

Police said the suspect gave a voluntary statement regarding the incident stating that she "did not know the age of the child". 

The police stated that the confirmation and denial of the voluntary statement given by the suspect regarding the incident was continuing, and that the child's statement would be taken with the help of social services officers, and requested that the suspect be detained in the police custody for 3 days in the first place so that the investigation could be carried out safely.
