Illegal Syrian migrants land themselves in trouble, report to TRNC police that they were missing

Two men who entered the TRNC illegally has landed themselves in trouble after going to the police to report that they were lost. 

The suspects named only as FA, 33 and AA, 30 from Syria were reported to have entered the TRNC illegally through the sea at around 1:00am on Saturday.

On arrival in the TRNC from Mersin, Turkey, and unaware of where they are, they went to the Lefkosa police department at around 3:30pm on Saturday to report that they were lost when they could not identify their surroundings.

They were arrested by the police and taken to court on Sunday on charges of illegal entry.

Police officer who testified in court said the suspects entered the TRNC from a coast they did not know, along with 15 other people. They came to with a small boat from Mersin, Turkey and were all dispersed somewhere.

The men statements that some people brought them to the north of Cyprus in exchange for 4,000 Euros and then left them in an unknown place in a white van.

Police said an investigation was launched against them, and their statements would be confirmed and refuted.

The police noted that they were looking for the people who helped them and requested that they be detained for 3 days.
