TRNC police warn against fake rental ads on social media

Turkish Cypriot police have issued a warning to the general public to careful of fave rental houses advertised on social media.

The announcement on Tuesday came following an arrest of an individual who fraudulently received 134,000 TL from two people for house rent.

The police in an announcement said fraudulent activities were carried out by individuals using fake rental house advertisements shared by some malicious users on social media platforms and fraudulently obtaining money from individuals.

The police reported that a Facebook user shared fake rental house ads and received 134,000 TL from two people with the promise of renting a house.

In the statement, it was warned that "In order to avoid similar grievances, our people are kindly requested to be very careful when looking for a house to rent on the internet or social media platforms, and not to transfer money to the bank account numbers provided without seeing the physical existence of the house they will rent."
