Eight people arrested for illegal residency, others for traffic offense

Another 8 foreigners were identified and arrested by Turkish Cypriot police for living illegally in the TRNC on Thursday.

The eight of them were identified and arrested during police inspections carried out across the country on Thursday night.  

Legal proceedings were initiated against them.

In another development, one person was arrested for not obeying traffic laws during traffic inspections carried out by the police across the country yesterday.

A total of 1575 drivers were checked and 140 were arrested for driving above the legal speed limit, 12 for driving under the influence of alcohol, 2 for driving without a driving license, and 35 for driving in traffic.

A total of 362 drivers were reported for various traffic crimes, including 28 for using a mobile phone while driving and 28 for driving without wearing a seat belt, and legal proceedings were initiated against them, while 1 driver was arrested and 17 vehicles were banned from traffic.
