Two foreigners to remain in custody over prostitution investigation in north Cyprus, one released

Three foreigners who were arrested and detained by the police for encouraging prostitution in the TRNC were brought back to court again on Thursday with new information emerging.

Three of the suspects in the ongoing “anti-prostitution operation” reappeared in court on Thursday, with one released on bail and the others remanded in custody.

One of the suspects, a 39-year-old man, named only as ON, had jumped out from the window of an apartment located on the 3 floor of a building and landed in the parking lot after sighting the police.

Police said he had broken both arms and suffered “a serious head injury”. He was subsequently taken to hospital before being discharged and taken into custody.

Police accused him of pimping women out, and the police’s investigation found that he is also living in the TRNC illegally without a resident permit.

As a result, he was denied bail and will remain in custody for ten more days.

The second suspect, a 22-year-old woman, was found with the first suspect and was also found to be living illegally in the TRNC. She was also remanded in custody for ten days.

The third, a 29-year-old Nigerian woman, named only as ABO had admitted to having made an agreement with a Turkish man to engage in sexual intercourse with him in exchange for 400TL (€13.53).

She was released on bail with a condition to pay a fee of 10,000TL (€338), banned from leaving the country and ordered to report to the police station once a week.
