Ankara remains committed to a lasting solution in Cyprus: Erdoğan

Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan has said that Ankara remained committed to achieving a fair and permanent solution in Cyprus.

Speaking to reporters on Monday following a cabinet meeting, Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan said that Türkiye was determined and committed to achieving a fair and lasting settlement in Cyprus.

Erdoğan said that the path to a solution in Cyprus lay in confirming the sovereign equality of the Turkish Cypriot people.

“We are preserving our commitment towards a solution in Cyprus as we marked the 40th anniversary of the establishment of the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus (TRNC) this year,” he said, adding that Türkiye continued to strengthen its bonds with the TRNC which it considered as it junior homeland.

Expressing satisfaction with the support of the Turkic world for the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus, Erdoğan highlighted the historic significance of the TRNC becoming an observer member in the organization under its constitutional name.

“Time will prove how big of a mistake the EU, punishing the Turkish Cypriots, has made. Despite all the injustice we have faced, we are preserving our determination for a fair and permanent solution. We believe that the way to this solution passes through the confirmation of the equal sovereignty of the Turkish Cypriots. We witness those who try to divert the Turkish Cypriots from their just cause pursuing new games in the Caucasus,” he said.
