Turkish Cypriot bus driver who harassed a female passenger released on bail

A Turkish Cypriot bus driver who was arrested for harassing an 18-year-old female passenger have been released on bail after appearing in court.

The man, named only as Ş.A., a university shuttle bus driver had appeared in court on Nov., 18 on charges on sexual harassment. He was detained for two days initially and brought back to court again on Monday, Nov., 20.

Police said, the suspect on Nov., 17, sexually harassed an 18-year-old female passenger who was seated across from the bus driver. Police said the driver harassed the young woman after she left the bus.

The driver was arrested following a complaint from the police.

The suspect is a Bulgarian national who had become a TRNC citizen in 2021, having worked in the TRNC for five years..

Police said that the man had no criminal record and requested that he be released on bail.

The judge granted him bail on the condition that he deposit bail of 30,000 TL. Additionally, two guarantors were required to sign promissory notes of 350,000 TL each and he was banned from travelling.
