Greek Cypriot man caught with drugs hidden in his pants while trying to enter the TRNC from the south

A Greek Cypriot man has been detained by Turkish Cypriot police for trying to cross into the TRNC from south Cyprus with drugs hidden inside his pants.

The Greek Cypriot man named only as LT, was stopped at the Kermiya crossing point at around 6)2pm on Thursday upon tip-off while passing from the south to the north of Cyprus.

Police said they found drugs in his underwear during a search carried out on him. He was arrested and brought to court on Friday.

Police told the court that they received information that the suspect would import drugs to the north of Cyprus and that they started an ambush mission at the Metehan Kara Border Gate.

Police noted that during the search carried out on the suspect, 10 grams of cocaine-type drugs were found in transparent nylon in the underwear he was wearing and were taken as evidence.

During the investigation conducted on the suspect regarding the issue, he stated that he bought the drugs in his possession from an unknown person in the south on the same day for 300 Euros and imported them to the north for entertainment purposes.  

The police officer stated that the investigation continued in many aspects and requested 3 days of detention.
