Man detained in Iskele for brutally killing a cat and posting it on social media

A 43-year-old man has been detained by Turkish Cypriot police for the brutal murder of a cat in Iskele.

Police said the suspect, a Turkish Cypriot named only as M.Ş., 43, brutally murdered a cat on the grounds that it "harmed small livestock".

He was arrested after the incident started trending on social media lately. He was taken to court on Sunday, on charges of "Acting Against the Animal Welfare Law".

Police said the incident occurred on Friday Nov., 24, in Yarköy but was brought to the attention of the police on Sunday.

The suspect confessed that it was harming his newborn lambs in his own sheep pen. 

Police said, "after brutally killing a cat caught in the device he had prepared for foxes, he took a photo of it and published it on his social media account. 

Investigation into the incident is ongoing."
