Man beat police officer at Lefkosa police station, threatened to set himself and police officer on fire

A man who threatened to beat up a police officer and also set both of them on fire has been arraigned in court for violence.

The suspect, named only a MB, a Turkish security guard was arrested by the police over the weekend and taken to a court in Lefkosia on Monday on charges of assaulting a police officer, preventing a police officer from carrying out his duties, and threat of violence.

Police officer who spoke in court, said the suspect, was being questioned at the Lefkcosia police Branch on Saturday on the charge of "Acting Against the Electronic Communications Law", when he told the police sergeant "You cannot hold me accountable" and then pushed him in the chest.

The suspect then shouted inside the police station saying, “If you arrest me, I will burn both you and myself.

Police said he threatened to use violence by saying "I am a security guard."

The police officer stated that the suspect, who resisted arrest, was arrested using reasonable force.

The police noted that the investigation was completed and that the suspect had no criminal record and no pending case.

The judge who evaluated the testimony in court ordered the suspect to be released on bail, on the condition that the suspect pays a cash guarantee of 10,000 TL and bring a guarantor to signs a surety bond of 100,000TL.
