Man kidnapped and beaten over debt in north Cyprus

First they kidnapped him for owing them money, then they stole his phone and physically assaulted him.

The three suspects, AH, 28 NAK, 22 and AAB, 24, who were involved in the assault, that happened at around 6:00pm on Nov., 7 were arrested and taken to court on Sunday on charges of robbery, kidnapping and assault.

Police said the suspects went to the resident of the victim located in Gemikonağı on Nov., 7, beat the victim, named only as AA, 22, forced him into a rented car and took him away for owing them money.

Police said they took him first to Haspolat and then to Famagusta where they robbed him of his mobile phone and wallet containing 400 US Dollars and 300 TL.

One of the suspect then took the victim to Haspolat, where he changed vehicles and got into the other suspect's car. 

They took him to Famagusta with 2 other people whose identities have not yet been determined.

They stayed in the dairy for a while. While they were returning to Lefkcosia, the victim managed to escape from the suspects and took refuge in the police following which an investigation was launched by the upon.

Police said the car in question was found abandoned in the Haspolat region and was taken to the Demirhan Police Station as evidence.  

The two suspects who were declared wanted among others, were detected in Gemikonağı and arrested in accordance with a pending warrant.

The suspects, who spoke after the police, claimed that they were innocent.

The police officer stated that the crimes in which the suspects were involved were serious crimes and that there were still suspects and indications related to the matter. The police stated that if the suspects were released, there was a possibility of interfering with the wanted suspects and evidence, and asked that they be detained for 3 days.
