Student arrested for sitting in an exam for another found to be living illegally in North Cyprus

Student who was arrested and detained for forgery and impersonation has been found to have been living illegally in the TRNC for almost a year. 

The suspect identified only as OOO, was caught at around 8:30am on November, 6, while sitting for a Tourism Research Methods exam at the Cyprus International University, Haspolat in place of another person. Police said he used a forged document to sit for the exam.

The attendance list and exam paper signed by the suspect were taken as evidence.

He was arrested and taken to court on charges of impersonation and document forgery.

During police investigation, police said the suspect said he took the exam for his friend who was abroad since his friend did not study.

 

Police said further investigation revealed that the suspect had been in the country without a resident permit for 349 days since November 29, 2022.

 

Noting that the investigation was continuing, the police requested that the suspect be detained for 3 days.
