Three foreigners arrested for human trafficking in north Cyprus

Three people who were arrested for human trafficking in Lefkosa were detained on court order on Thursday.

The suspects named only as SZ, MK and JA, were arrested and taken to a court in Lefkosia on charges of human trafficking and forming a secret alliance for the purpose of committing a crime in Lefkosia.

Police prosecutor to the Lefkcosia Judicial court that the suspects made an agreement with with an individual to take them to the south of Cyprus for 120 Euros per person.  

Police said that on November 21, 2023, SZ was caught at the Yonca junction while MK and JA were driving on the Lefkcosia-Famagusta main road.

The suspect MK, gave a voluntary statement and admitted his crime. 

Police stated that an investigation was launched against the suspect SK for human trafficking, and against MK and JA for forming a secret alliance with the aim of committing a crime.

Police said the investigation is continuing and that the suspect in human smuggling may have accomplices.  

Noting that there were statements to be taken and phone transcripts to be examined, the police requested that the suspects be detained for 2 days.
