Turkish national found guilty of rape in the south Cyprus

A Turkish man who lives in the south of Cyprus has been found guilty of rape.

The defendant, a 39-year-old man of Turkish origin, who participated as a contestant in the Turkish Survivor competition a few years ago, was found guilty of rape by the Famagusta High Criminal Court in Cyprus (south) last week Wednesday.

The incident happened in April, 2022, when the man raped a 35-year-old Cameroonian woman who was an asylum seeker in Cyprus.

According to report, the defendant, who is also an applicant for political asylum, was facing a long prison sentence.

It was noted that, immediately after his arrest, he told the police that he was "wanted in Turkey on the grounds that he made public statements against the Erdogan government, and accordingly, he sought political asylum by taking refuge in the south."
