Alcohol thief slept in a Mosque while living illegally in the TRNC

A man who twice stole whiskey from a market in Metropol was found to be sleeping in a mosque and living illegally in north Cyprus.

The suspect, a Turkish national was arrested on Sunday, Dec., 3 after he was caught stealing from a super market in Metropol.

Police said the suspect, who was a customer in the Metropol Supermarket in Lefkcosia at around 10am on Saturday, Dec., 2, put three 100cl Black Label brand drinks worth 2,399.70 TL into his trousers and took them out of the market without making any payment and smuggled them.

The suspect at around 10:15am on Sunday, Dec., 3 committed the same crime when he hid 70cl Chivas Regal and 100cl Chivas Regal brand drinks worth 1429.80TL into his trousers and taking them out of the market without making any payment, while he was a customer in the Metropol Supermarket on Sunday.

Police stated that the suspect was arrested red-handed.

Police said they discovered that he was living illegally in the country during the immigration check as he has been illegally since November 28, 2023.

The police officer stated that the necessary investigation was carried out, the investigation was completed and that the suspect had no place to stay and was sleeping in the mosque, and requested that he be sent to prison for 20 days.

Speaking after the police, the suspect said, "My daughter is sick, my father is sick, I had no money, I was in a bad mood, I wanted to drink, I'm sorry, give me a chance."
