Turkish man arrested for posing as a doctor in a TRNC university despite not qualified

A Turkish man who allegedly posed as a doctor while not qualified has been detained by Turkish Cypriot authority for working as a lecturer in a university in north Cyprus.

The lecturer, named only as G.D, a citizen of Turkey, who works at the Cyprus International University, reportedly examined patients at the university’s health centre and wrote doctors’ reports, despite not being qualified to do so.

Police said he has been posing as a doctor since 2021 despite not being a member of the medical association.

He was arrested on Nov., 8 but the incident was reported to the police by the medical association on Nov., 28 and then charged with “acting contrary to the Turkish Cypriot medical law”.

Police stated that a written lawsuit was notified to the suspect and the investigation was completed.

He was released on bail and banned from going abroad, pay a bail fee of 10,000TL (€320), provide a Turkish Cypriot to sign a bond of 200,000TL (€6,401) and that he presents himself to the nearest police station once a week.
