North Cyprus authorities arrests two human traffickers

Two human traffickers who secretly brought 6 Syrian refugees to the north of Cyprus in a TIR trailer were arrested by Turkish Cypriot police and brought to court.

The suspects, Ş.P., and H.Ç., both Turkish nationals were arrested and brought to court in Kyrenia on Wednesday.

Police told the court that the suspects, together with 3 other people, organized themselves and took 6 refugees, 4 of whom were 16 years old, one 15 years old and the other 40 years old, from Turkey, hid them in a trailer attached to the back of the TIR vehicle, and took them to north Cyprus via the Kyrenia port. 

Police said they were smuggling people by entering the northern part of the country without completing the entry procedures.

Their voluntary statements given separately admitted their crimes.

Police said investigation had just started and 3 people were wanted regarding the matter and requested that they be detained for 2 days for more investigation to be carried out.
